CEREC® Same-Day Crowns in Delta, BC
CEREC® Same-Day Crowns Near You
A damaged or weakened tooth may need more protection than a filling can provide. A dental crown covers the visible portion of the tooth, helping restore its shape, strength, and function. Traditionally, getting a crown often involves multiple appointments and a temporary restoration while the permanent crown is made.
At Delta Centre Laser Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide CEREC® Same-Day Crowns in Delta, BC, using digital scanning, computer-assisted design, and in-house milling technology. For suitable cases, we can prepare, design, create, and place the crown during one visit, so you can leave with your permanent restoration instead of wearing a temporary crown while waiting for another appointment.
If you are looking for CEREC® Same-Day Crowns near you, we will first examine the tooth to determine whether a crown is appropriate and whether same-day treatment is suitable for your situation.
What Is a CEREC® Same-Day Crown?
CEREC is a digital system used to design and create dental restorations within the dental office. Instead of taking a traditional impression and sending the case to an outside laboratory, we can digitally scan the prepared tooth, design the crown, and mill the restoration in-house.
The finished crown fits over the prepared tooth and restores the portion that has been damaged or weakened. We also check how it fits with the neighbouring teeth and how your upper and lower teeth come together before placing it permanently.
Same-day crowns provide the same basic purpose as traditionally fabricated crowns: protecting a weakened tooth and restoring its function. The main difference is how and where the restoration is made.
When Might You Need a Dental Crown?
A crown may be recommended when a tooth no longer has enough healthy structure to be restored predictably with a filling alone.
You may need a crown because of:
A large cavity
A cracked or fractured tooth
Significant wear or loss of tooth structure
A large existing filling that has weakened the tooth
A tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
Damage caused by injury
A need to restore the shape or function of a tooth
Not every damaged tooth requires a crown. Smaller areas of decay or damage may be treated with a filling, inlay, or onlay instead. We assess how much healthy tooth remains before recommending the appropriate restoration.
How Does the CEREC® Same-Day Crown Process Work?
When we provide CEREC® Same-Day Crowns in Delta, BC, we can complete most of the restorative process in our office.
The appointment generally includes:
Examining the Tooth
We evaluate the tooth and surrounding tissues and take appropriate dental images when needed.
Preparing the Tooth
We remove damaged or decayed areas and shape the tooth to create space for the crown.
Scanning Your Mouth
One of our Primescan intraoral scanners captures a detailed digital scan of the prepared tooth and surrounding teeth.
Designing the Crown
We use digital software to plan the size and shape of the restoration.
Milling the Restoration
We use one of our two in-house milling machines to create the crown from the selected restorative material.
Checking the Fit
We evaluate the crown’s contact with neighbouring teeth, appearance, and bite.
Placing the Crown
Once the fit is satisfactory, we bond or cement the restoration securely to the prepared tooth.
Because the crown is created in-house, suitable cases generally do not require a temporary crown or a separate visit simply to place the final restoration.
What Are the Benefits of a Same-Day Crown?
Completing a crown in one visit can make restorative care more convenient, particularly for patients who have difficulty scheduling multiple appointments.
CEREC treatment may offer:
Fewer appointments for suitable crown cases
No temporary crown in many cases
Digital scanning rather than conventional impressions
In-house control over the design and fabrication process
A permanent restoration placed during the same visit
Less time between tooth preparation and final crown placement
However, same-day treatment is not automatically the best choice for every tooth. The condition of the tooth, the type of restoration needed, available materials, and other clinical factors can affect how we recommend completing your crown.
How Do Digital Scans and In-House Milling Help?
Delta Centre Laser Cosmetic Dentistry has two Primescan intraoral scanners and two in-house milling machines. These technologies allow us to complete several steps of restorative treatment without sending every case to an outside dental laboratory.
The scanner creates a digital representation of your teeth, which we use to plan the restoration. Once the design is complete, the milling unit creates the crown in our office.
Having two milling machines also helps us provide same-day restorative treatment efficiently while keeping much of the process under one roof.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can every crown be completed in one visit?
No. Many crowns can be made using CEREC technology, but some cases may require a different restorative approach. We determine the best option after examining the tooth.
Will I need a temporary crown?
Usually not when a CEREC crown is prepared and placed during the same appointment. If your treatment requires a different process, you may still need a temporary restoration.
How long does a same-day crown last?
The lifespan varies according to the tooth, bite forces, oral hygiene, grinding or clenching habits, and other factors. Regular dental visits allow us to monitor the crown over time.
Is a same-day crown different from a regular crown?
Both are designed to restore and protect a damaged tooth. The main difference is that a CEREC crown can be digitally designed and fabricated in the dental office rather than being sent to an outside laboratory.
Are CEREC® crowns covered by dental insurance or the CDCP?
Coverage depends on your individual plan, the tooth being treated, and the reason the crown is needed. Our team can help you review available coverage before treatment.
